Public Health outlines county role in $212M rural health transformation awards; local hospitals applied

Tina McDougall told the committee the state received $212 million from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services for the first budget period of a five-year Rural Health Transformation initiative intended to strengthen health care access and outcomes in rural communities. Each county is slated to receive $525,000 for collaborative planning; the grant-period spending window begins Sept. 1 and runs through June 30.

For Washington County, McDougall said two county-level applications were submitted: Glens Falls Hospital partnered with Hudson Headwaters on an application focusing on obstetrics and maternity services expansion, and Healthy Alliance applied with an emphasis on social‑care networks and social determinants of health. McDougall said Public Health signed a letter of support for the hospital application but cannot serve as the direct funding recipient — the award requires a hospital or health‑care provider to be lead implementer. The committee received the report and was told staff will provide updates as applications progress.
