Commission recognizes IT employee Christian Reed for major cost savings

Kane County commissioners on Tuesday recognized IT staffer Christian Reed for developing multiple in‑house information and audiovisual systems that the county said replaced higher‑cost commercial solutions.

Devin, who introduced Reed's work, told the commission that Christian “designed and programmed our own data storage replication system” and built audio‑visual, surveillance and website systems that allowed the county to avoid expensive vendor purchases. Devin said Christian’s work has “saved the county tons of money” and “has saved us easily over a $100,000 in upfront costs” on key systems.

Commissioners and staff highlighted Reed’s role in projects including server replication between courthouse and public‑safety facilities, a new AV system at the Knapp Center, a parcel‑map feature for the county website, a property‑watch notification tool and the county fair’s exhibit registration system. The commission presented Reed with a small award and a photo.

The recognition was informational; no policy action or funding decision accompanied the presentation. The item concluded with commissioners thanking the IT department for providing services the county said would otherwise have required six‑figure vendor contracts.
