Commission approves two-year animal-control interlocal, sets 2027 payment at $479,000

The board approved an amended interlocal agreement to share animal-control services with municipalities. Commissioners discussed operational details — including which bodies must sign (Board of Works, city council, commissioners, county council), whether the county should assume control of facilities and the implications of a two‑year contract that affects the 2028 budget.

A motion to approve the interlocal agreement and appropriate $479,000 for animal control in 2027 and $503,000 for 2028 (two equal installments) was moved, seconded and carried by voice vote. Commissioners noted municipalities such as Greenfield are participating at differing levels and that some municipalities' budgets begin later in the year, but the interlocal approach was presented as the practical path forward to assure continuous animal-control service.
