Council members report economic development, Memorial Park grant application and community events

Council members used their reports to highlight local economic activity, grant work and upcoming community events. Palomar said development near Dollar Tree and other downtown projects are progressing, and that Kingsburg Healthcare District will resume meetings next week.

Council member Palmer said the Community Service Commission discussed applying for a Proposition 68 grant with a focus on Memorial Park and mentioned a possible Kingsburg Cares Day. The council also heard that the Scribe family has launched a nonprofit and plans a community pickleball tournament on Sept. 26 as a kickoff fundraiser, and that Humankind asked the BID for space for a downtown pop-up. “Staff kudos to staff and yourself for, you know, creating an environment that the seniors actually enjoy going to,” Palomar said during the Senior Center discussion; similar praise was offered for downtown efforts.

Administrative items included a finance committee meeting scheduled for Aug. 24, the BID board’s two vacant seats, and a holiday kickoff on Nov. 7. These items were informational and did not require council action at the meeting.
