Dave Mooney told the board that bids from all three vendors for the county's hauling contract were significantly higher than budgeted and that the rural portion of bids was particularly expensive. He said the county's hauling budget for the contract is $213,172 and the current hauling contract expires Nov. 1.
Mooney offered three options: promote a part‑time employee to full time and have county staff perform rural pickup while excluding rural recycling; accept Richards (citing recent poor service and billing from Republic) and later rebid the rural option without recycling; or rebid the Main Site only while county staff handle rural sites. "Budget is $213,172 for the hauling contract," Mooney told the board. "The intent of rebidding is bidders could come down on the Main Site costs if they know they don’t have to do the rural." He said he will ask the two low bidders to re‑bid without rural‑site recycling.
