ARNC staff: on-site substance use leads to suspension but case management, referrals continue

Advanced Pathways explained how the ARNC balances open-access intake with on-site safety rules. Jim said the campus may refuse entry or services if a person is so intoxicated they pose a safety risk, and that on-site use of drugs leads to suspension with offered resources for treatment.

"That that is correct... someone who is using on campus would then be suspended. Right now that suspension is we increased it because of what we've noticed in the some of the behaviors. So that has increased to 30 days," Jim said when explaining enforcement paired with referrals. He and Stephanie Kuiper emphasized the program also provides detox referrals and case-management outreach to support transitions to housing or treatment.

Council asked about the clinical team and ongoing support for suspended guests. Jim confirmed Marlon Sango is the clinical director and is a full-time staff member working with complex cases; staff said they continue to offer services to suspended individuals and try to identify housing and supports even when someone initially refuses placement.
