Council declines to adopt ordinance changing Sunrise Park land-use designation

The City Council considered third reading of Ordinance 523, which would amend the City of Sun Valley 2016 Comprehensive Plan to change the Sunrise Park parcel’s future land‑use designation from Open Space to Recreational (ZMA 2017‑013). Council Member Michelle Griffith recused herself from the item.

Council President Keith Saks spoke at length in opposition to changing the land‑use designation, arguing the comprehensive‑plan designation had been the product of wide input and saying, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." Council Member Jane Conard said she preferred to defer to the Planning & Zoning Commission’s recommendation. A motion to adopt Ordinance 523 was made by Conard but received no second and therefore failed for lack of a second; the ordinance did not advance.
