County staff seek funds to replace in-shop 20,000-pound lift after safety certification concerns

Michelle Halstead told the board the Peoria maintenance shop's 20,000-pound vehicle lift is out of service because a cylinder retainer at the base needs replacement and a vendor-recommended weld repair would void the lift's safety certification.

"The lift is currently out of service ... the cost is about 38,000, and change," Halstead said, adding that intergovernmental rents would cover roughly $30,000 and the remainder would come from the department's budget. She and Mike, the interim fleet division manager, said repair would be cheaper but would sacrifice the safety certification and create liability concerns.

Commissioners signaled informal support for proceeding so staff can secure vendors and place the formal request on the next meeting agenda. Staff said they will temporarily borrow appropriated funds to issue a purchase order and finalize exact numbers for the formal packet.
