Commission approves City’s 5-year paving and sidewalk plans; staff outlines preservation strategy

The Planning Commission unanimously approved the City’s annual 5-year paving and 5-year sidewalk plans. Development Director Corey Divel introduced the item and public works representative Doug Tarwater described software used to evaluate pavement condition and select treatments.

Tarwater explained that higher-friction surfaces are applied to major roads while standard overlays are used on local streets; preservation treatments such as rejuvenation and protective surface applications help extend pavement life at considerably lower cost than full resurfacing. Commissioners approved the plans by unanimous motion.
