The City Council adopted an ordinance amending code provisions related to golf courses to remove a prohibition on miniature golf and permit lighted facilities to operate into the evening.
Council Member Jost, who moved the ordinance, described the change as removing a prohibition that had prevented miniature golf and limiting night use: “...modifying the language in our code around golf courses, where there was language that, you could not have miniature golf and also that golf courses could not, be lighted for night use... they can operate until 10PM.” The council approved the ordinance by voice vote, 7–0, with supporters saying it will expand programming and increase revenue for parks operations.
The change was discussed as a way to broaden recreation offerings and allow facilities equipped with lighting — cited example: Highland National Driving Range — to extend hours safely within code limits.
