The Abilene Board of Building Standards unanimously found the house at 1826 Rosewood Drive to be a public nuisance and hazardous to public health, safety and welfare and ordered demolition or appeal within 30 days.
Inspector Ricky Wright summarized staff findings including reports from family members that the interior contained heavy filth and structural issues: "Brian said he's now in charge of his father's properties. Brian told us the house is terrible inside, including bags of human feces all over the house," Wright said. Staff recommended demolition as repair would be unreasonable; the board approved the staff recommendation on roll call and then passed the demolition order.
The record shows a condemnation affidavit recorded May 22, 2026; staff told the board the owner was listed as Jackie E. Smith and that the property had been secured after a back door was kicked in. The board recorded unanimous votes in favor of both the nuisance finding and the demolition order.
