Board approves repair schedule for 1201 Graham Street after fire and estate transfer

The Abilene Board of Building Standards voted Aug. 5 to accept staff recommendation for the property at 1201 Graham Street, requiring the owner (or care-of representative) to provide a plan of action within 30 days and to follow the standard inspection schedule if repairs proceed.

Inspector Ricky Wright said the property experienced a structure fire affecting the back portion of the house, a condemnation affidavit was recorded June 15, 2026, and the listed owner is deceased; the care-of representative has secured the property and said they intend to transfer and sell it. "So at this time, the staff recommendation is to order the owner to repair 30 days to provide a plan of action including a time frame for repair and cost estimates and obtain all permits," Wright said. The board approved the motion unanimously on roll call.

Staff noted the care-of hired someone locally to secure the property while arrangements are made to transfer title. The board's order sets enforcement timelines; the owner or their representative may appeal within 30 days.
