County manager Adam Stump introduced Brian, a new cooperative extension director who recently joined from Appalachian State. "Brian comes to us from Appalachian State... Resident of Todd," Stump said while introducing him. Brian (who pronounced his name "McCargh") thanked the commissioners and described priorities for the office, including supporting agriculture, hiring a livestock agent, operating a commercial kitchen incubator for start-up food businesses, and reinvigorating 4‑H offerings.
"We are supporting agriculture and farmers here in the community. Notably, Christmas tree farmers and how important that is to, our economy here in Ashe County," Brian said. He also said the office is in the process of hiring a livestock agent and has several candidates to interview. Commissioners welcomed the new director and expressed appreciation for his early outreach to county departments.
