New GUNTER ISD trustees outline priorities as district braces for growth

Host E interviewed the two newest members of the GUNTER ISD school board, Christy Nelson and Robert Huff, on the program "Driving with Doctor." Nelson said she ran after her sons graduated from the district and with more time at home she wanted to give back. "I'm Christy Nelson, and I'm really glad to be here," she said in her introduction.

She singled out keeping class sizes small so students remain known to teachers and families.

Huff echoed the emphasis on values, saying the district should keep its core principles central as external conditions change. Neither trustee laid out specific construction or budget plans in the interview; they described priorities in values and planning rather than firm programmatic commitments.

The interview provides an early look at the trustees' priorities: community-rooted decision-making, proactive planning for anticipated enrollment increases and a stated desire to preserve the district's small-school culture as new residents arrive.
