Council committees forward janitorial, traffic-signal contracts and code cleanups to consent agenda

Committee members reviewed several administrative and procurement items that were forwarded to the evening consent agenda. Public‑works and procurement staff recommended awarding a janitorial-services contract to the low compliant bidder, Crystal Maintenance, in an amount not to exceed $65,400; staff said that price is below the $100,000 included in the proposed budget. The committee approved forwarding the award to the consent agenda.

Staff also recommended awarding a combined traffic-signal improvement contract for pedestrian signals at Dundee & Linda and Rand & Dundee and suggested using Community Development Block Grant funds for the work. During the staff presentation the contract amount read from the transcript appears garbled; the committee approved forwarding the award to the consent agenda pending confirmation of the final bid award amount in the procurement documents.

Separately, staff proposed a consolidation and simplification of Chapter 19 of the village code to streamline water connection fees and fee schedules; the committee forwarded the ordinance amendment to the consent agenda. The employee handbook update—most notably extending the probationary period from six months to one year—was also forwarded.
