Commission orders removal of loose billboard material at 3665 South State Road 25

The Cass County Planning Commission voted to remove loose material from a roadside billboard at 3665 South State Road 25 and leave the steel frame in place rather than install new plywood. Staff presented a $1,495 estimate from Jay's Personal Services to replace damaged plywood but told commissioners the owner had not responded to repeated contacts.

Staff member (speaker 4) said the west side of the billboard had rotting plywood and trim and noted the structure itself appears to be sound: "They are, probably about 90% done," and later described the estimate as "$1,495." Commissioners discussed whether to pay to replace plywood that may fail again and concluded removal to the metal frame would be more durable and less expensive for the county. A motion to remove existing material and not reinstall plywood passed with members saying "Aye."
