Panel flags enforcement limits on coops and feral cats while keeping animal rules under review

Commission members examined language in the animal ordinance that governs coops, poultry, and domestic pets. Several commissioners said the current draft was inconsistent on where coop rules live and raised practical enforcement concerns about feral cats and roaming animals.

One commissioner noted that the city code requires coops and that animal guardianship sections exist elsewhere in the code; members agreed staff should copy and consolidate coop language into the animal ordinance. The panel did not adopt new enforcement mechanisms but highlighted that feral cats and stray animals are difficult to control and recommended clarifying licensing and vaccination responsibilities in the redraft.
