Commission approves 279‑home Cantera PUD on former Eastside cannery site

The county board approved a Planned Unit Development (PUD) that converts a roughly 29.5‑acre former casino site into a 279‑lot single‑family detached community branded as Cantera.

Stephanie Gronauer, representing Lennar, said the design provides about twice the normally required open space, two parks with tot lots, detached sidewalks and a decomposed‑granite trail along an NV Energy easement. “We have 279 homes that are proposed on this site,” Gronauer said, and she described wide streets and additional guest parking to accommodate the small‑lot detached product.

The planning commission had unanimously recommended approval; the board adopted the plan with the minor requested change that clarifies street naming and other standard conditions for the PUD.
