A CBJ staff member announced that city street crews have begun deploying pumps up and down the river as part of flood preparations and urged residents to stay away from equipment and barriers. "For your safety, we'd appreciate if you keep clear of the pumps, the lines, and as well as the Hesco barriers," the staff member said.
The staff member said trained professionals from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the CBJ Streets Department will be on site to operate the pumps and manage the temporary barriers. The announcement closed with a request for cooperation: "I appreciate your assistance with this in helping to keep your friends and family safe as well as the CBJ crew during this event," the staff member said. The statement did not include a schedule for removal of barriers or further operational details.
