Commissioners approve budget transfers, report hires and honor retiring deputy

Denton County commissioners approved several budget amendments and personnel-related items on Tuesday.

The court approved budget amendment request 2026404 to transfer $11,000 from vehicle care and $29,000 for upfitting two grant-funded vehicles in emergency management. It also approved a $30,000 transfer within the sheriff's office budget for kitchen supplies and repairs. Both amendments were approved unanimously.

Human Resources representative Hernandez reported hiring one associate judge magistrate, one district attorney's office hire and five new hires with the sheriff's office (four detention officers). The court also approved the purchase of a single-duty weapon for deputy Sammy Blanc following his honorable retirement effective July 31, 2026, and approved a clothing stipend and phone allowance for Lieutenant Andrew Shelton tied to a promotion that took effect on April 5, 2026.
