Board approves School Resource Officer agreements and 9-1-1 grant; routine sheriff retiree requests granted

The Board approved several public-safety items on Aug. 5, 2026, including intergovernmental agreements and grant acceptance.

Items approved included an IGA between Pinal County (on behalf of the Pinal County Sheriff's Office) and Florence Unified School District #1 to provide School Resource Officer (SRO) services, and a separate IGA with J.O. Combs Unified School District #44 to provide SRO services; budgeted funding for SRO services is included in the FY26/27 budget, and there was no General Fund impact noted for these items in the action summary. The Board also accepted award agreement ADOA-AZ911-27-12 under the Arizona 9-1-1 grant program for $486,000 to support operations and contractual services for Pinal County 9-1-1 dispatch centers.

The Board approved two retirement requests from deputies to purchase issued duty weapons at specified prices under A.R.S. §38-1115(A): Deputy Timothy Larkin requested to purchase a Glock 47 ($25) and Smith & Wesson AR-15 ($330); Deputy Todd Englin requested to purchase a Glock 22 ($25) and Smith & Wesson AR-15 ($330).
