Council approves $151,000 engineering agreement to design two new wells to meet PFAS standard

The Galesburg City Council approved an engineering agreement with Crawford Murphy & Tilley Inc. in the amount of $151,000 for the design and bidding documents for two new wells (Wells 7 and 8) at the Oquaca Well Field.

"Constructing 2 new wells at this site will help the city achieve regulatory compliance while providing additional reliability and redundancy for the water system," Hansen said, describing recent testing at a site north of the treatment plant that found no detected PFAS. He said the engineering phase covers design and bid documents and that construction is anticipated to begin in summer 2027; staff said sufficient funds exist in the water account to cover the engineering work.

Council approved the engineering agreement by voice vote (7 yes). The project is part of the city's effort to meet the EPA's maximum contaminant level for PFAS by 2029.
