Commission forwards MDOT master agreements update, subject to counsel review

Transportation staff presented updated master agreements with the Michigan Department of Transportation, saying the documents would cover work through 2029 and allow the county to act as the implementing agency for its transportation planning program. Sheila, the transportation presenter, told commissioners: "This is an update that will go through 2029, and this will, also flow through the board of commission."

Chair moved that approval be conditioned on review by corporation counsel after asking whether counsel had already reviewed the agreement. The chair said: "It would suggest that motion to make it subject to approval by corporation counsel," and the commission approved the amended motion by voice vote. Staff said the language tracks prior agreements and that indemnification language and other standard provisions would be reviewed as the agreement advances to the board for final action.

The decision sends the agreements to the board's agenda and to corporation counsel for formal review; staff said they expect no major substantive changes from the prior three-year agreement but will incorporate any counsel recommendations before final approval.
