Commission approves 24-acre Mundy Township farmland-preservation application

Staff presented the first Mundy Township farmland/open-space preservation application: a roughly 24-acre parcel of which about 12.5 acres were in soybean cultivation. Staff explained eligibility criteria (parcel size between 5 and 50 acres, more than 51% in agricultural use, and the $200-per-acre income threshold) and told commissioners the parcel met those requirements.

A commissioner moved approval of staffs recommendation; after discussion about survey participation in the township and whether the revenue threshold is a low barrier, the commission approved the application by voice vote. The motion recorded the file number referenced in staff materials and staff wished the applicants luck as the preservation term will proceed under program rules.
