Mayor Arne Jorgensen presented a proclamation on Aug. 3 honoring Jonah Valdez, a Teton County athlete who competed at the Special Olympics USA Games in Minnesota. The proclamation noted Valdez’s gold medal in mixed doubles and other competitive placings, and it recognized the athlete’s embodiment of the Special Olympics oath.
"Jonah Valdez from Teton County competed in mixed doubles and was invited by Special Olympics to be part of our state's delegation," Mayor Arne Jorgensen read as he gave the proclamation. Jonah Valdez then thanked family members and coaches and said it was an honor to compete.
The council's recognition was ceremonial; no formal action beyond the proclamation was required. Mayor Jorgensen dated the proclamation Aug. 3, 2026, and the council offered brief applause and well wishes at the conclusion of the presentation.
