Residents tell Jackson council mobile housing and development are "gutting" small businesses

At the start of the meeting residents told council that recent development trends and a proposed mobile housing project are harming small businesses and local quality of life. Sarah Flitner, who identified herself during public comment, asked the council to require the mobile projects to satisfy affordable-housing obligations and to house staff on site, and she called for a council-appointed review group to assess the comprehensive plan’s functionality.

"What's happening is gutting our town," Sarah Flitner said during public comment, urging council to "help us correct this." Kathy Parrot echoed those concerns, saying rising rents threaten the viability of long-standing local businesses and urging the council to "put on the brakes." Both commenters asked the council to consider stewardship, growth management and quality-of-life values when evaluating projects.

Council members acknowledged the concerns during later agenda discussion; the comments were made in the public-comment portion and did not trigger immediate policy action but were cited by councilors as part of broader land-use conversation.
