Jackson council removes stay on demolition permit for 700 East Pearl

Planning and Building Director Paul Anthony presented a demolition-permit application (DEM 26‑0012) for partial removal of a residential structure at 700 East Pearl. The Teton County Historic Preservation Board had recommended a 60‑day stay beginning July 14, 2026, but staff told council the board’s review effectively left the council options and that the board’s minimum stay sometimes reflects procedural timing rather than a finding of historic significance.

Council debated options for imposing no stay, a limited stay, or deferring. Councillor Schechter moved to approve a stay of 0 days beginning 07/14/2026, specifically eliminating future days of a stay; the motion was seconded and passed unanimously. Paul Anthony explained the ordinance history and the preservation board’s procedural role; Erin Freer provided brief public comment in support of resolving the item quickly.

Council’s action removes the preservation-board stay period in this case and allows the permit process to proceed under the town’s demolition-permit rules. Staff said earlier that the structure is a Boise Cascade modular unit from 1967 and that the preservation board had determined it was not historically significant under town criteria.
