Council approves ambulance purchase, EMS equipment and state grant

The council authorized several public-safety capital moves, approving a contract with Gorman Emergency Vehicles for a demo ambulance not to exceed $444,230 and accepting a $6,880 grant from the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services to fund genealogical testing related to an exhumed body.

"This new ambulance will replace ambulance number 5652, which has a lifespan of 10 years and it's beyond the lifespan," the public safety commissioner said, noting delivery could be as early as September. The council said the purchase was approved in the 2026 capital budget and funds will come from capital lines.

Separately, the council authorized a Scribe Sales LLC contract for EMS, firefighting and law-enforcement equipment not to exceed $312,369.34, including five new cardiac monitors to replace units that are approximately 11–12 years old. Council members noted the cardiac monitors were included on the prior year's capital plan and bonded, meaning the expense will not come from operating funds.

All measures were approved by roll call or voice vote as required for capital items.
