Planning & Zoning: July valuations surge to $54 million year-to-date, official says

John, the planning and zoning official who reported to the board, said July brought 101 cases including two administrative permits totaling $30,000,000 in valuation and 11 zoning permits totaling $17,000,000. He highlighted one zoning permit for a $16,000,000 expansion at Vega and noted total fees collected for the month were $49.50.

"All of last year, total valuation was 28,000,000, and year to date, for right now, we're at 54,000,000," John said, noting the county is seeing increased permit activity and staff are coordinating with MIDC to manage the caseload. Commissioners asked for questions, and none were raised before the board proceeded to the next item.

Why it matters: The jump in reported valuations indicates increased private development activity in the county and will affect building inspections, fee revenues and planning workloads for the coming months. Staff said they will continue to monitor filings and return with any necessary follow-up items to the board.
