Resident urges limits on rodeo broadcasts and late-night teardown after weekend event

Dusty Dunmore, a West Yellowstone resident who said he lived in town from 1961 to about 1990, told the council the rodeo permitted for the weekend created excessive noise and cleanup demands for neighboring properties. "The broadcasting I don't know what what what still some standards are for decibel levels, but it was loud enough in the properties across the street on Irish Street to vibrate walls and move things that were hanging on those walls," Dunmore said.

Dunmore said the permittee used more space than authorized, broadcast events before the approved window and conducted takedown with heavy equipment well after 1:30 a.m. He identified himself as a certified land-use planner and recommended several mitigations: require permittees to stay within permitted footprints, operate loudspeakers at lower volumes, reorient speakers westward away from homes, and restrict teardown to daytime hours. The council took the comments during the public-comment period and did not enact immediate changes; several council members acknowledged the concern and said staff would consider permit clarifications for future events.
