Santa Fe Public Schools retreat adopts four-priority strategic framework and 45‑day scorecard

Facilitators at a Saturday retreat for the Santa Fe Public Schools Board presented a draft strategic framework that the superintendent and staff will use to align departmental plans, set measurable targets and report progress in 45‑day cycles. Zach Taylor, the session facilitator, said the goal was to build a “human‑centered” model that prioritizes coherence across the district.

"This is a district that helped raise me and has helped raise my kids," Taylor said, framing the retreat as a community‑rooted effort, and described the retreat's expected outcomes as identifying key priorities, fostering shared commitment and creating a 45‑day cycle for iterative action. Dr. Griffin, the superintendent, described four draft priorities: student achievement; collective responsibility and an inspired workforce; family and community collaboration; and responsive systems and future‑ready pathways.

The framework includes measurable targets and a dashboard that uses green/yellow/red status to indicate progress and an owner for each action. For student achievement, the team proposed a target of 10% growth in district reading and math proficiency by May 2027 using high‑quality instructional materials and targeted supports. Board members took part in breakout work to surface the top concerns and three immediate action items for the scorecard.

Next steps discussed included refining language in the draft goals, integrating the board's priorities into a 45‑day action plan, and returning to the board for regular reporting. No formal final vote adopting the framework was recorded during the retreat; facilitators and the superintendent will produce a revised draft and scorecard for board review and 45‑day reporting.
