Library to close the week of Aug. 17 for ADA bathroom renovations

Justin Downed of the Harwinton Department of Public Works told the Library Board that bathroom renovations planned for the library will require moving a wall approximately 1 foot into the community room to achieve ADA-compliant layouts; both bathrooms will be fitted with new lights, vents, sinks, toilets and changing tables. Downed said the library will be closed for the week of Aug. 17 for construction, though staff may work on-site on Wednesday and Thursday of that week.

Downed said electrical work will be done first to allow later installation of automatic doors, and that electrical costs will be separated in the budget so they can be covered by grant funding. Director Alice Freiler said a building committee will be established in August as required by the grant. The board heard that a bottle-filler or fountain with a bottle-filler will replace the existing water fountain.
