Plano ISD adopts updated student code of conduct including first-incident device confiscation and expanded ID requirements

Plano ISD trustees unanimously approved updates to the 2026–27 Student Code of Conduct that change device-handling procedures and expand student identification requirements.

Assistant Superintendent Jennifer Miley reviewed the changes, saying the revised code requires confiscation of telecommunications devices on the first offense and mandates that violation acknowledgement forms be reviewed with students and parents at that point. "The device confiscations occurred during the 1st incident," Miley said as she explained the updated enforcement and parent-notification procedures; she also noted that violations are tracked in the district's student management system.

Miley explained that House Bill 6 removed a prior requirement to hold an ARD before certain disciplinary actions for students with disabilities; the code was updated to remove that requirement unless a change of placement is involved. Trustees asked about campus-level enforcement, parent-template notifications and data tracking; Miley said the information will be tracked in Review 360 and that campuses will be trained prior to the school year. The motion to adopt the code passed 7-0.
