Plano ISD outlines CTE Center transition plan; substantial completion targeted Oct. 5

Plano ISD staff updated trustees on the new Career and Technical Education (CTE) Center, describing program capacity, transition plans and a construction timeline that targets a substantial completion date of Oct. 5.

CTE director Karen Beekman summarized enrollment growth and program planning, saying the center will offer 19 programs of study and expects roughly 1,000 students this fall with the ability to expand. Beekman said the program design includes A/B/C blocks to allow students to spend a minimum of two class periods per day at the center.

Addressing the start of instruction, staff said students will begin classes on Aug. 11 at temporary sites (Academy High School and space at Clark) and the district will use the fall break to move equipment and prepare the permanent facility. "We are still on track for a substantial completion date of October 5," Karen Beekman said. Staff described transportation options (district buses, eligible student drivers, parent dropoff) and community partnerships—such as a planned CUTX credit union branch and a District Made store—intended to provide industry experiences and community access. Trustees praised the planning and asked staff to continue regular updates as move-in approaches.
