Plano ISD reports summer learning growth; nearly 6,000 students served

Plano ISD's expanded summer programming served nearly 5,900 students this year, with notable growth in middle-school newcomer supports and credit-recovery courses, district officials told trustees.

Stacy Singleton, executive director of expanded learning pathways, said total enrollments across summer programs exceeded 7,000 course seats and called out a jump in middle-school pathway-to-excellence newcomer programming from 392 to 882 students (+125%). She said EOC interventions and credit-recovery courses also increased, and described targeted expansions in elementary bilingual and computer-science bridge programs. "We served almost 5,900 students this summer," Singleton said as she reviewed attendance and program outcomes.

Trustees asked about longitudinal tracking of summer-program participants and staff said the district monitors MAP scores and plans to report fall outcomes; staff also described enrichment partnerships with Toyota USA and the Plano ISD Education Foundation. Trustees encouraged staff to include outcome measures in fall board reports.
