Klamath County approves $350,141 in Title III grants for four fire-mitigation projects

The Klamath County Board of Commissioners on Aug. 4 approved Title III Advisory Council recommendations funding four fire-mitigation projects with a combined allocation of $350,141.00.

Don Beatty and Ian Thigpen presented the Advisory Council's recommendations and described the Title III process, including an eligibility review and a 45-day public comment period, which concluded with "no public comments received." Commissioner Nichols moved to approve the funding and Commissioner DeGroot seconded; the motion passed by a unanimous vote.

The approved awards were identified for Lake Point Firewise; Crescent Rural Fire Protection District; Ridge Water Firewise Community Homeowners Association; and Klamath County Fire District One. County staff noted procedural requirements for applicants, including current SAM registration, and the Board recorded the recommendation to open the next Title III cycle in the spring to align with the two-year funding window for projects.

County officials said the funding is meant to support community-level mitigation work and volunteer capacity-building. The Board did not receive oral public comments during the formal comment period for these awards.
