Commission committee backs purchase of 22 replacement vehicles, including five EVs, to grow Shelby County 'green fleet'

Shelby County staff told commissioners the county's fleet replacement program will buy 22 vehicles under a recommended resolution that carries an upper cost limit of $925,672.

County Engineer Darren Sanders said the replacement program is funded by departments that opt into the program and that vehicles become eligible at 15 years or 150,000 miles. "That's what this resolution does is it approves 22 new vehicles," he said, noting five of the purchases will be all-electric. Sanders said the county's green-fleet goal is 5% conversion by the end of 2027 and that this purchase would move the county from about 4.3% to roughly 4.8%.

Sanders also said the procurement drew a single bid from Nashville Automotive. With no commissioners in the queue for extended questions, the committee voted to forward the purchase with a favorable recommendation.
