Members raise safety concerns where Mechanic Street sidewalk ends near Slaton Hill

A committee member said the Mechanic Street sidewalk will end by Slaton Hill and that there is currently no crosswalk at the underpass, creating a hazardous pedestrian route. Members noted the longstanding roundabout project that would widen the underpass and add crossings is years out in the CIP and may not happen, so interim pedestrian measures are needed.

The committee discussed alternatives including a properly graded ramp or switchbacks up to the Greenway and interim gravel paths to provide safer crossing options. Members suggested the topic be included in the slide deck for council outreach so it receives higher priority before larger capital projects are cut.
