Council hears progress report on Elk Meadows; vouchers scarce and rents estimated $900–$1,200

During the manager’s report, staff provided an update on the Elk Meadows housing development. A staff member said there was an approximately 85-person waiting list at one building and that the development includes 72 units. Staff discussed projected rents in the range of $900–$1,200 depending on unit size (one-, two- and three-bedroom units were discussed).

Councilors and staff also addressed the local voucher supply. Staff said they were told at a regional housing conference that there were no additional vouchers available, and that they would continue to press regional New Mexico Housing staff to locate vouchers to preserve proposed affordability assumptions. No formal action was taken; staff said they would keep the council updated on construction timing and voucher availability.
