Board committee recommends shorter LabAids science pilot for middle school

The teaching and learning committee recommended a middle'school science pilot using LabAids after staff explained the resource'provider's pilot structure. The vendor supplies limited full kits for classroom use, so the district will evaluate engagement and how materials support hands'on science practices.

Mister Mysiak said LabAids lets the district view all units while the classroom trial uses a smaller set of kits; teachers will complete the same evaluation rubrics used in other pilots. "This pilot will kick off a little bit later than the social studies 1, but, again, it's a it's a shorter scope in terms of the total number of weeks that they'd be engaging with that," he said. The committee voted to forward a positive recommendation to the full board.

Staff said the pilot will allow comparison between existing resources and the new material and noted that the district currently uses multiple middle school science resources; the evaluation will inform whether a single, consistent resource should be adopted.
