Commissioners adopt findings denying Yost rezoning request

The Wright County Board of Commissioners voted to adopt findings that deny a rezoning request for Kenneth and Susan Yost. County staff told the board the planning commission recommended denial and that the findings, minutes and staff report were provided in the meeting packet.

A motion to approve the findings of denial was made and seconded; the motion was recorded by the chair as made by Commissioner Holland and seconded by Commissioner Dietrich, and the board voted to approve the findings. During discussion, one commissioner called the recent denial "very heartbreaking" while also noting the property lies in the middle of agricultural land and that preserving farmland is a priority.

Several commissioners said they would like further discussion about ordinance changes to make entitlements clearer for property owners whose parcels lie inside ag land, with the board referring the topic to upcoming reviser meetings ahead of a broader land‑use plan update. Staff confirmed the zoning administrator executed the findings and provided them to the applicants.
