Siskiyou County undersheriff says supervisor exceeded authority, asks board for independent probe

James Randall, identified in the meeting as Siski County's undersheriff, told the Board of Supervisors he will file a formal complaint alleging a county supervisor "overstepped their authority by conducting unauthorized investigations into county departments, elected officials, and operations." Randall said the conduct recently targeted him and that he believes the actions are retaliatory and have created a hostile work environment.

"I am here today to formally notify the board that I'm filing a formal complaint in accordance with the Siski County personnel policy manual regarding harassment, retaliation, and policy violations by supervisor, Jess Harris," Randall said, and handed the complaint to county personnel after his remarks. He requested two immediate actions: that the county retain an independent outside investigator to conduct an objective investigation, and that safeguards be put in place so Supervisor Harris has no influence over employment or department matters during the inquiry. Randall also said he is seeking independent counsel for potential litigation if the alleged misconduct is "allowed to continue."
