Town manager says insurer denied dock claim; MMA advises legal action

Town Manager Sara J. Liscomb told the Selectmen that the town’s insurance review and an external insurer had denied coverage for recent dock damage. According to the minutes, "MMA suggests we take them to court as we have great video evidence." MMA (the Maine Municipal Association) told town staff that roads and retaining walls generally are not covered by MMA insurance, and the denial from D.C. Air & Seafoods’ insurer leaves the town considering legal options.

The minutes indicate the board will vote on the next step at an upcoming meeting. Selectman R. Hemenway noted he would not be present for that vote and indicated he was comfortable moving forward with it in his absence. The minutes record public commenters raising concerns about the absence of a posted dock weight limit and opposition to raising taxes for repairs.
