Resident tells council River Trail camping is making parks unsafe for families

Ashley Stevens told the council that people have been camping and sheltering on the River Trail near Huntington Bank, sometimes behaving in ways she described as threatening and inappropriate for family use of the park. She said she has photos and videos and that police patrols so far have not resolved the situation.

Stevens urged the city to remove tents from the park or provide shelter placement for people in need so families can safely use picnic areas and trails. The mayor and staff said they are aware of the situation, noted that parks have a no‑camping rule, and invited the resident to speak with the chief after the meeting for further follow‑up.
