Council approves $1 million USDA‑routed grant for public safety building renovation

City manager told council the city received a final commitment that $1,000,000 from a 2024 congressional appropriation will be routed through the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Community Facilities program to fund mechanical renovations at the Public Safety Building. He said the grant is 100% funded and that USDA grant requirements drive additional red tape before the city can bid the work.

Staff said bids had already returned and that the grant closeout (referred to as 'clear to close' by USDA) is the final step before advertisement; the city manager said construction is targeted for next calendar year and that the council will see a bid award at a future meeting. Council approved the USDA Community Facilities grant action by roll call vote.
