Committee sends pay‑grade increase for engineering project coordinator to budget

County Engineer Mike Hughes presented a budget amendment to adjust the pay grade for engineering project coordinator Jeff Jayco, saying Jayco's pay grade was too close to an engineer‑in‑training level and he was not afforded a step increase during the last budget. Hughes said the requested change would move Jayco from pay grade 34 to pay grade 35 and "would be essentially a $2,035 increase in salary," with modest related payroll costs, to be funded from the unassigned fund balance.

Commissioner Peay moved to send the amendment to budget; Commissioner Phil Dodd seconded. The committee approved the request in a roll‑call vote and directed staff to pass it to the budget process. Hughes noted Jayco's oversight of multiple county projects as context for the increase.
