Commission chooses concise water-tower branding, requests artist mock-up

Crescent City commissioners voted Aug. 4 to adopt a simple, destination-style design for the city water-tower and asked staff to return with a mock-up for final approval.

The commission debated several options — from the city seal to a bell design drawn from historic fruit labels, and a separate catfish mural for the water-plant area. Commissioner Summer DeVito moved to accept the city manager’s recommendation to place the wording “Historic Crescent City” on the tower and to find space elsewhere for the Belle-of-Crescent-City artwork; the motion was amended on the floor to replace the bell artwork with the city’s destination oval logo. The amended prescription passed by roll-call vote 3–1; commissioners directed staff to prepare a visual rendering before final implementation.

Members of the public urged a simple design visible from a distance. One resident said a minimal treatment — city name, ’Historic’ and the established date — would be most legible from the lakeside and would preserve the tower’s role as a town identifier. Staff said the vendor will print a wrap and the city can evaluate color and scale before final installation.
