Denmark urges immediate ceasefire, keeps Ukraine high on Council agenda

When asked about Ukraine, Ambassador Lesson said Denmark has prioritized Ukraine during its Council term and will continue pressing for stronger Council engagement, civilian protection and an "immediate and unconditional cease fire." She noted ``increasing number of civilian casualties'' and said May and June were reported as among the deadliest months so far.

"We have been pleading for more than a year for an immediate ceasefire," Lesson said, adding that Denmark sees a just and lasting peace as one that respects the UN Charter, state sovereignty and territorial integrity. She said Denmark will keep Ukraine on the Council agenda because the mission is concerned that the conflict must not become "business as usual."
