City staff presented Resolution 3108 authorizing the city manager to accept a California Highway Patrol cannabis tax fund grant award of $298,500. Staff said the police department and finance collaborated on the application shortly before the deadline and the award will relieve the general fund by approximately $298,000.
Staff described planned uses for the funding, including DUI saturations and checkpoints, two message-board trailers and 12 months of administrative support. The presenter noted: "...that would relieve the general fund of $298,000 that would be invested into the community for public safety purposes, which is 42 DUI saturations, one's a variety checkpoint, 2 message board trailers, and, 12 month of coverage administrative support." The council moved, seconded and approved the resolution by roll call.
Staff said the funds will be used for public-safety overtime and equipment/administrative support tied to enforcement and community messaging; no local match or additional obligations were reported at the meeting.
