Advocate offers tiny-house village model as alternative to sweeps

Matthew Resnick, who helped start one of the first nationally recognized tiny-house villages in Seattle, told the council the tiny-house village model can be an effective, scalable response to encampments. Resnick said his team worked with law enforcement and community partners in Seattle and that the model grew from one village to more than 40.

Resnick offered to meet privately with council members or staff to present implementation details and argued tiny-house villages can interconnect with low-income housing organizations and shelters. "If you guys wish to contact me, you guys want to have a private meeting, you want me to have a presentation I can break down to you in complete detail how the tiny house village program benefits everybody in the city," he said.
